5.6 kg Gold worth Rs. 2.24 Crores seized from Air India aircraft by Customs at Chennai Airport.

On Tuesday   based on information that gold was likely to be smuggled by way of  concealment in  aircraft   arriving from Dubai , a team of   AIU officers carried out rummaging   of Air India flight AI-906 which had arrived from Dubai.  This International  flight was  converted into  flight  AI 440 and was to fly to Delhi on its domestic run.  During rummaging four  bundles wrapped  in black adhesive tape were found  concealed in rear toilet of the  ai,rcraft. On cut opening the  bundles,  48 gold bars of 10 Tola each  with foreign markings totally weighing 5.6 Kg valued at Rs. 2.24 Crore were recovered and the same were seized as unclaimed under the provision of Customs Act, 1962. Further Investigation is under progress according to a press release issued by the Commissioner of Customs, Chennai International Airport.
