SHRI.T.V.K. REDDY ADDRESSES SECOND SCO MEDIA FORUM IN KYRGYZSTAN

Shri T.V.K. Reddy, ADG (Region) PIB, Hyderabad said that New media today, has enlarged the communication eco-system, where each one of us is a producer as well as consumer of information  dissemination process.   In his welcome speech as the Head of the Indian delegation to the Second Mass Media Forum of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, he said that despite competition from the New Media, the audiences for traditional media remain robust.

 

Shri Reddy further said that spread of ‘fake news’ has become a major concern today.  He suggested establishment of a fact checking instrument in the SCO secretariat to build confidence and mutual trust among member countries.  Open communication and proactive media are necessary to enable enter cultural dialogue in today’s globalized world, he said.

 

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a Eurasian, political, economic and military organization.  SCO’s objectives are centered around cooperation between member nations on security – related concerns, intelligence sharing and counter-terrorism.  It comprises of India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Russia and Uzbekistan.

 

The Shanghai spirit has long term neighbourliness, friendship and cooperation as its core value to foster mutual trust and respect among member countries.  Its member nations account for approximately half of the world’s population and a quarter of the world’s GDP.
