POSTER ON AUTISM RELEASED

Shri T.V.K. Reddy, ADG, Press Information Bureau said that being aware of child’s developmental milestones and getting an evaluation and treatment can make a difference for children with autism.  Speaking at a programme organised to mark World Autism Day here today, he said according to an estimate one in every 125 children is autistic and there are about 70 crore autistic children in the world today.  He said autistic children have difficulty with verbal and non-verbal communication.  The symptoms begin in early childhood persist and interfere with daily lives of the children.

 

Shri Vijay Mohan, Deputy Director, National Career Centre for Disabled said that awareness about autism would help in recognising the symptoms and beginning treatment.  He said media has a key role in spreading the awareness about autism.

 

Shri K. Nageswara Rao, President, All India Disabled Rights Forum, said that autism affects early in childhood and needs to be addressed soon.  It varies in type and severity, but therapy can improve the ability of the person the function.
