NCB accused person awarded 12 years R.I and fine of Rs. 1,25,000/-

NCB Ahmedabad’s accused person Harjinder singh@ Raju, s/o Harbansh
singh sudan r/o Campgoal, Gujaral Distt- Jammu, state J&K. who was caught with
17.65 Kgs (net) Charas in June 2014 has been awarded 12 years Rigorous
Imprisonment and fine of Rs. 1,25,000/- failing which further Rigorous
Imprisonment. of 6 months.
Harjinder Singh started off from Jammu driving a truck bearing registration
number JK 02 L 5673, in which 18.66 Kgs (Gross) Charas was concealed in a
drum inside truck. He was supposed to deliver this Charas in Surat, but before he
could do it, he was intercepted by NCB team at Aslali crossroads, Narola,
Ahmedabad in June 2014. The value of this Charas consignement was about Rs. 1
Crore that time.
The complaint of this case was filed in December 2014 and Judgement in
this NDPS Case 02/2014 is delivered on 08.02.2018 by Honourable Judge Mr. RPS
Raghav, 10 th Additional District nad Sessions Judge, Mirzapur, Ahmedabad. He is
convicted u/s 8 (c) , 20 (b) (ii) (c) of NDPS Act, 1985 (as amended). A total of 6
witnesses were examined by prosecution and apart from their testimony, the
Judgement relied upon the documents produced by NCB Ahmedabad. The accused
pleaded for lesser amount of punishment citing reasons of quality of Charas,
however the test of seized contraband tested positive for Charas and he was
awarded stringent punishment of 12 Years RI and fine of Rs. 1,25,000/-. The
Judgement says that accused has committed a crime against society at large and
also against nation, these offences has very deep impact on society, especially on
the well being of the younger generation. It is due to sustained efforts and
handling of Case by SPP Sh. A.P. Desai of NCB and constant supervision of Sh.
Hari Om Gandhi, the Zonal Director of NCB that the case led to conviction.
