Smt Merla Geerha Rani, Director in M/s BPR infrastructure Ltd. Hyderabad failed to the pay penalty of Rs. 22,00,000/- under Section 271(1) (C) of the I.T. Act., on the unexplained cash deposit of Rs. 60,00,000/- in savings bank account. Subsequently, the Income tax Department made a complaint u/s 276(C) (1) before the Hon’ble Economic offences Court against the assessee. The Hon’ble Spl. Judge for Economic Offences, sentenced the accused with rigorous imprisonment for a period of six months and with a fine of Rs. 10,000/- for the offence u/s 276 (C) (1) for non-payment of taxes.
