In a significant step towards strengthening service delivery in an increasingly competitive environment, expanding business activities, enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring sustained revenue growth, the Department of Posts has undertaken a nationwide restructuring of its administrative units to make the administrative framework more effective, streamlined and result-oriented. As part of this initiative, a new Postal Region has been established at Surat in Gujarat Circle, in addition to the existing regions at Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Rajkot. Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, informed that, recognising the growing importance of the logistics business, the Department of Posts has also approved the creation of a new post of Postmaster General (Logistics) and Director (Sales), Gujarat Circle, along with the establishment of a dedicated office for the same. Additionally, five new Postal Divisions have been created in Gujarat, namely Ahmedabad Heritage City, Ahmedabad Utkarsh, Dahod, Surat (East) and Gandhidham. This administrative restructuring is aimed at strengthening the organisational framework, improving operational effectiveness and providing more efficient and customer-centric postal services. The new administrative structure will come into effect from 1 November 2026.

While inaugurating the newly created Ahmedabad Heritage City Postal Division at the Ahmedabad GPO premises, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region, said that three Postal Divisions will now function in Ahmedabad district to ensure a more streamlined and efficient postal administrative system, namely Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Heritage City and Ahmedabad Utkarsh Postal Divisions. Their respective headquarters will be located at Navrangpura Head Post Office, Ahmedabad GPO and the Dholka Post Office building premises. The newly created Ahmedabad Heritage City Postal Division will oversee postal operations in the eastern part of Ahmedabad city. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Utkarsh Postal Division will manage postal services and administrative activities in the rural areas covering Sanand, Viramgam, Mandal, Dholka, Bavla, Dhandhuka and Dholera talukas. This reorganisation will facilitate better management, supervision and monitoring of postal services in both urban and rural areas.

Postmaster General, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav further said that, consequent upon the inclusion of Bhavnagar and Surendranagar Postal Divisions, which were earlier part of Rajkot Region, in North Gujarat Region, the total number of Postal Divisions under North Gujarat Region will increase to nine, making it the largest Postal Region in Gujarat Circle. These nine divisions will comprise Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Heritage City, Ahmedabad Utkarsh, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Surendranagar and Bhavnagar. On the occasion, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav also inaugurated the newly established office of the Postmaster General (Logistics) at the Speed Post Bhavan, Shahibaug, Ahmedabad. The office of the Postmaster General (Logistics) will primarily focus on Mails, Parcels and International Mails. Accordingly, all Railway Mail Service (RMS) offices, Foreign Post Offices (FPOs), transport services and Mail Motor Services operating across Gujarat Circle will function under its administrative control.

Postmaster General, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, said that this initiative marks a significant step towards expanding postal services in Gujarat, ensuring better administration and building a modern, responsive and robust postal network in line with changing requirements. In keeping with the Government of India's vision of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,” the restructuring will facilitate improved administrative coordination, effective monitoring and more efficient delivery of postal services. He further emphasised that the Department of Posts is currently undergoing a significant transformation aimed at evolving into a customer-centric, technology-driven, operationally efficient and financially self-reliant organisation.
