Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Steel Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy today interacted with beneficiaries and distributors of electric vehicles (EVs) from across the country at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The interaction was organised by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) to provide a platform for EV beneficiaries, distributors and industry stakeholders to share their experiences, perspectives and insights on the adoption and use of electric vehicles.

The interaction was attended by Shri Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries; Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries; senior officials of the Ministry; representatives of the automobile industry; EV manufacturers, distributors and dealers; and EV beneficiaries from different parts of the country. Industry representatives included Mr. Sai Giridhar, President, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA); Mr. Sushant Naik, Chairman – EMG, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM); and Mrs. Anjali Singh, President Designate, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

The programme highlighted the growing electric mobility ecosystem in the country and the Government’s sustained efforts towards promoting clean, sustainable and self-reliant transportation.Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, in his Welcome and Opening Remarks, highlighted the Government’s strong policy push for electric mobility and emphasised that localisation is key to building a resilient and self-reliant automotive ecosystem. He noted that initiatives such as PM E-DRIVE and PLI-Auto are supporting domestic manufacturing of critical EV components.

 

Government committed to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat@2047

Addressing the gathering, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy highlighted India’s transformative journey towards sustainable and self-reliant electric mobility. He extended his greetings to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on his birthday and acknowledged his continued service to the nation.

The Union Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy appreciated the leadership and vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in driving India’s transition towards electric mobility and building a cleaner, greener and self-reliant transportation ecosystem. He also appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Heavy Industries in implementing various initiatives and schemes aimed at accelerating EV adoption, strengthening domestic manufacturing and creating an enabling ecosystem for electric mobility.

Highlighting the Government’s comprehensive approach to electric mobility, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy spoke about the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, which supports EV adoption and charging infrastructure, as well as the PLI-Auto and PLI-ACC schemes, which are strengthening domestic manufacturing of advanced automotive technologies and battery cells.

The Union Minister emphasised the need for an inclusive, affordable and economically sustainable transition to electric mobility, supported by robust manufacturing, innovation and a strong ecosystem. He congratulated EV users for contributing to cleaner mobility and reduced crude oil imports and appreciated the industry’s efforts towards producing world-class vehicles with increasing local content.

He called upon all stakeholders to work together to build a seamless, accessible and globally competitive electric mobility ecosystem aligned with India’s national mission.

The Union Minister further emphasised the importance of listening to the experiences of EV users and other stakeholders on the ground. He noted that feedback from beneficiaries and distributors would help in further strengthening policy implementation and addressing emerging requirements across different segments of the electric mobility ecosystem.

Industry representatives share perspectives on evolving EV landscape

The programme was also addressed by key representatives from the automobile industry. Mr. Sai Giridhar, President, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA); Mr. Sushant Naik, Chairman – EMG, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM); and Mrs. Anjali Singh, President Designate, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) shared their perspectives on the evolving electric mobility landscape and the industry’s experience with the growing adoption of electric vehicles.

EV beneficiaries share ground-level experiences

At the interaction, EV beneficiaries from across India presented diverse perspectives on the use of electric vehicles across different segments of electric mobility.They spoke about how an electric two-wheeler is supporting his daily mobility and livelihood while providing lower running costs.Ms. Sunita Chaudhary, an e-3W driver, spoke about using an electric three-wheeler for her livelihood and the benefits of lower running costs and reduced driving fatigue.They discussed the suitability of electric four-wheelers for everyday passenger mobility and cleaner transportation.The beneficiaries’ perspectives provided valuable ground-level insights into the benefits of electric mobility across personal mobility, livelihoods, public transport and freight movement. They also expressed confidence in continued Government support and enabling policies to further strengthen India’s electric mobility ecosystem and advance a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future

Shri Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, highlighted India’s rapid progress in electric mobility and said, “Electric mobility is a great opportunity for India to become a global electric mobility player.”

He highlighted key initiatives including FAME I & II, PLI Auto, PLI-ACC, PM E-DRIVE, PM-eBus Sewa (PSM) and the Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Scheme, and called upon industry to focus on cost competitiveness, technology and global capabilities.

The programme reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to advancing India’s Net Zero goals, promoting Atmanirbhar Bharat, strengthening domestic manufacturing and realising the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 through the development of a robust, sustainable and self-reliant electric mobility ecosystem.

The interaction marked an important step towards strengthening dialogue among Government, industry, distributors and EV users and further consolidating India’s journey towards clean, sustainable and globally competitive electric mobility.
