PIB HYDERABAD MEDIA DELEGATION VISITS STATUE OF UNITY AND EKTA NAGAR

A 10-member media delegation from Hyderabad, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), visited the Statue of Unity and Ekta Nagar in Gujarat as part of its media tour to the State. 

The delegation witnessed the development of Ekta Nagar and learnt about its tourism, livelihood and sustainability initiatives.

The Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, reflects the spirit of national unity and integration. The development of Ekta Nagar reflects the Government of India’s focus on promoting tourism, employment and local development. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has highlighted Ekta Nagar as an emerging tourism destination where tourism, environmental protection and local development go hand in hand.

Briefing the delegation, Shri Narayan Madhu, Additional Collector, Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SOUADTGA), highlighted the development of Ekta Nagar, spread across 56 sq km and 90 villages. He said tourism-led development has generated around 1,800 direct and 7,000 indirect employment opportunities. He also briefed the delegation about key attractions including the Statue of Unity, Jungle Safari, Valley of Flowers, Arogya Van, Cactus Garden, Butterfly Garden and Ekta Mall.

He highlighted the participation of tribal communities, particularly women, in tourism-related activities, including pink e-rickshaws, food centres and restaurants. The delegation was also briefed about the role of Ekta Mahila Mandal in promoting training and self-employment opportunities for tribal women.

The media adelegation also witnessed the use of eco-friendly mobility, including electric buses, e-rickshaws and e-carts, and visited the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

The visit provided the media delegation with first-hand exposure to the convergence of tourism, sustainable development, green mobility and livelihood generation in the region.
