The National Conference on Patient Safety 2026 concluded at AIIMS Nagpur after two days of scientific deliberations, expert discussions, and exchange of best practices aimed at strengthening patient safety and quality of healthcare across the country.

Organised by AIIMS Nagpur in collaboration with the National Patient Safety Secretariat (NPSS), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, the conference brought together Directors and Executive Directors of AIIMS and other leading institutions, clinicians, nursing professionals, hospital administrators, researchers, and patient-safety stakeholders from across India.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. Anil Sukhdevrao Bonde, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chairperson, Indian Medical Parliamentarians’ Forum, as Chief Guest; Shri Ajay Sancheti, Former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), as Guest of Honour; and Dr. Sujata Chaudhary, Additional DGHS, in special presence.

The inaugural session commenced with the welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director, AIIMS Nagpur, who welcomed the distinguished dignitaries, delegates, and participants and outlined the significance of the two-day conference. He emphasised the need to strengthen patient safety, promote continuous quality improvement, and foster a culture of safer, evidence-based, and patient-centred healthcare delivery.

Centred on the theme “Safe Care for Non-Communicable Diseases” and the slogan “Safe Care for Life!”, the conference reinforced the importance of making patient safety an integral part of healthcare delivery, particularly in the context of the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.

The scientific programme featured dedicated sessions on safe care for newborns and children, resilient emergency care, patient-safety leadership, technology and artificial intelligence, research and innovation, surgical safety, medication safety, learning from patient-safety incidents, safe and sustainable healthcare facilities, and engagement of patients and families as partners in care.

The conference witnessed the participation of senior healthcare leaders and invited dignitaries from across the country, including Directors of six AIIMS and other distinguished experts and institutional leaders. The deliberations emphasised evidence-based clinical practices, medication and surgical safety, infection prevention, incident reporting and learning systems, continuous quality improvement, technology-enabled solutions, and stronger patient and family engagement.

The conference also served as a national platform for institutions to share experiences and scalable best practices for safer healthcare delivery. The recommendations emerging from the scientific sessions and deliberations are expected to contribute towards strengthening patient-safety practices across healthcare institutions and support the refinement of national policies and strategies for patient safety in India.

The conference concluded with a valedictory and closing ceremony that celebrated innovation, institutional learning, and contributions towards advancing safer, higher-quality healthcare. Numerous awards and prizes were presented during the valedictory function, recognising outstanding scientific papers, poster presentations, innovative best practices, and exemplary patient-safety initiatives by participating institutions.
