IIM Nagpur Inaugurates Hindi Month 2026; Announces Annual Hindi Publication ‘Meghdoot’

Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM Nagpur) inaugurated Hindi Month 2026 on September 1, marking the beginning of a month-long celebration of the Hindi language through a series of literary, cultural and academic activities.

Dr. Vedprakash Mishra, noted educationist, thinker and orator, attended the inaugural programme as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the significant role played by Hindi in India's freedom movement and its continuing relevance as a language that connects people across the country.

Dr. Mishra said that Hindi was not merely a language of communication during the freedom struggle but also emerged as a powerful medium for connecting people across geographical and linguistic boundaries.

“Hindi helped establish a linguistic connection from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Attock to Cuttack during the freedom movement,” he said.

IIM Nagpur Director Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Chief Administrative Officer Prof. Devashis Rath, Chairperson – Brand and Media Prof. Yatish Joshi, faculty members, officers, staff and students associated with the Veda Literature Club were present at the inaugural function of Hindi Month.

Describing the nature of Hindi, Dr. Mishra said that the language is simple, flexible and possesses a strong poetic quality. He noted that Hindi has never been restrictive in its evolution and has welcomed and assimilated words from several Indian and foreign languages.

Referring to the global presence of Hindi, Dr. Mishra said that, according to 2023 data of the Anthropological Survey of India, Hindi is among the world's largest spoken languages. He further emphasised that India's multilingual character is its strength and should be celebrated.

Earlier, Prof. Yatish Joshi outlined the activities planned during Hindi Month at IIM Nagpur and spoke about the institute's efforts to encourage the use of Hindi through a diverse range of programmes.

Prof. Devashis Rath spoke about the growing use and acceptance of Hindi at IIM Nagpur. He highlighted the institute's progress in creating greater opportunities for Hindi communication and participation across its academic and administrative activities.

Prof. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, spoke about the simplicity and accessibility of Hindi. He emphasised that Hindi is an easy and natural language of communication, and its simplicity makes it accessible to people across different sections of society.

IIM Nagpur Announces ‘Meghdoot’, Its Annual Hindi Publication

As part of the inaugural programme, the cover and concept of ‘Meghdoot’, IIM Nagpur's annual theme-based Hindi publication, were launched.

Meghdoot is envisioned as an annual Hindi magazine that will bring together the creative, literary and institutional expressions of the IIM Nagpur community around a central theme.

The first edition of Meghdoot will be released on January 10, 2027, observed as World Hindi Day, informed Chaitanya Deshpande, Officer for Communication & Media and Official Language, IIM Nagpur.
