The programme aimed to familiarise school students with the fundamental concepts of Goods and Services Tax (GST), promote tax literacy from an early age, and foster an understanding of the role of taxation in nation-building, economic development and responsible citizenship through an interactive and student-centric approach.

The programme commenced with the welcome of Principal Additional Director General, DGTS, MZU, Shri Sumit Kumar and the officers of DGTS, MZU, by PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) No. 1, Colaba, Mumbai, (the oldest KV in the country). This was followed by the felicitation by DGTS, MZU, of the students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, who were winners and participants in various GST Day competitions. This was conducted to popularise the understanding of the taxation system and to spread financial and tax literacy among school students, with enthusiastic participation by students of Classes IX to XII. Certificates and GST awareness books were distributed to the students in recognition of their enthusiastic participation and creativity. The event provided an opportunity for the students to showcase their understanding of GST and the values of responsible citizenship. Addressing the students, Shri Sumit Kumar, highlighted the significance of GST as a landmark reform in India's indirect tax system and explained the role of taxation in nation-building and public welfare. He also highlighted the diverse career opportunities in taxation and public administration.
