Union Minister for Communications and DoNER, Sh. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Union MoS for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani virtually inaugurate the newly renovated Kandivali West Post Office as a Future-Ready Service Hub under 'Jan Sewa Connect'

In a landmark step towards modernising India's postal infrastructure, Union Minister for Communications and DoNER, Sh. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani virtually inaugurated the newly renovated Kandivali West Post Office as a Future-Ready Post Office, along with 14 post offices across 8 postal circles. Revamped Dak Sewa app and Dak Mitra app were also launched on the occasion.

About the Renovation

Originally established in 01.04.1965, the Kandivali West Post Office, commenced its operations in present premises in the year 2014. The renovation has been undertaken under the 'Jan Sewa Connect' Project, which is a flagship modernisation initiative of India Post, aimed at transforming traditional post offices into contemporary, customer-centric and technology-enabled service hubs and make it future ready.

The project is undertaken with the partnership of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. The upgraded facility features enhanced infrastructure and modern interiors, improved customer facilities, digital integration and efficient service delivery and strengthened branding and visual identity

The initiative reflects India Post's commitment to bridging tradition with technology while preserving its legacy of public trust.

Union Minister for Communications and DoNER, Sh. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia lauded India Post and Centre of Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) for launching the revamped apps to help crores of customers and its GDS officials. The initiative to revamp Dak Mitra app is a significant step towards building consolidated platform for GDS staff to perform all postal transactions, i.e. from booking of articles to performing multiple type of POSB transactions. Revamped Dak Sewa app which is available in 23 Indian languages has already crossed more than 10 lakh downloads and it will enable the general public to avail multiple postal services on one platform. He congratulated the entire India Post team for the step to inaugurate 14 post offices under Dak Sewa project as proof of concept. He underlined the efforts taken by India post to achieve 16 % increase in the revenue in the year 2025-26 over the previous year and crossing the threshold of 4000 Cr turnover for the first time in first quarter of 2026-27.

Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani underlined the importance of launch of revamped Dak Sewa app for the customers and Dak Mitra apps for post office staff and stressed that India Post has to keep up with changing scenario to fulfil the aspirations of the new generation. He charted out the plan for transformation of India Post in 4 ways i.e.  technology upgradation, policy framework updation, change in organisational mindset and upgradation of physical infrastructure.

Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra and Goa Circle, Sh. Ramchandra Jayabhaye addressed the gathering of Postmen, Postwomen, and staff of the Maharashtra Postal Circle at the venue.

India Post: A Legacy Reinvented

With a legacy of over 170 years and a network of more than 1.5 lakh post offices, India Post continues to be a vital pillar of financial inclusion and digital public services across the country. The Department has recorded a healthy 16% growth in Gross Postal Revenue in 2025–26, reflecting the strength and relevance of its ongoing transformation.

The renovated Kandivali West Post Office stands as a symbol of this evolution - from a colonial-era institution to a modern, efficient, and citizen-first service delivery centre.

'Jan Sewa Connect' is India Post's flagship infrastructure modernisation initiative designed to reimagine post offices as accessible, efficient, and digitally empowered community service hubs — reinforcing the Department's mission of inclusive growth and last-mile connectivity across India. Kandivali West PO is the second Post Office in Maharashtra to be inaugurated under Jan Sewa Project along with 14 post offices across 8 postal circles.
