प्रविष्टि तिथि:

Government of India constituted a committee on 16.03.2022 comprising representatives from NTPC Ltd., Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (GSECL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) which studied various aspects of Life extension and Renovation & Modernization (R&M) of coal based thermal power stations and brought out a report in the form of R&M Guidelines 2023. Thereafter, based on the guidelines, CEA identified 223 units as potential candidates after consulting with all the concerned stakeholders for Renovation & Modernisation/ Life Extension (R&M/LE) works with age older than 20 years as on December 2022. The R&M/LE works in these units have to be implemented in nine phases to avoid any major energy demand- supply gap. The details are given at Annexure.
At present, the Central government neither provides funds nor has any central sector scheme for modernization/ upgradation of thermal power plants across India including Andhra Pradesh. The generating company is expected to commercially finance the R&M/LE works after evaluating the feasibility.
