To commemorate São João, one of Goa's most cherished monsoon festivals, the Goa Postal Division today released a Special Cancellation at the Panaji Philatelic Bureau. The cancellation was unveiled by Shri Deepak Bhowar, Senior Postmaster, Panaji Head Post Office, in the presence of philatelists and postal officials.

The design reflects key elements of the festival, featuring a traditional Goan well, symbolizing the iconic custom of jumping into wells during the celebrations, the floral Kopel worn by participants, and seasonal fruits associated with the festivities.

Celebrated annually on 24 June in honour of St. John the Baptist, São João is known for its vibrant traditions, including floral crowns, folk songs and ceremonial jumps into wells and water bodies during the monsoon.

Through this Special Cancellation, the Department of Posts aims to preserve and promote Goa's rich cultural heritage through philately, create awareness about the festival, and encourage greater public engagement with stamp collecting. The commemorative cancellation serves as a lasting tribute to one of Goa's most colourful and enduring cultural traditions.
