An international media delegation from Germany, Switzerland and Austria visited Kochi. The visit was organised with the support of the Indian Embassy at Hamburg, Germany, and strategically timed with the festival of Onam, enabling the delegation to witness Kerala’s rich and vibrant cultural traditions.

“It is the objective of the Ministry of Tourism to ensure effective marketing of India as a global tourism destination while ensuring inbound tourists receive the best of Indian hospitality,” said Shri Venkateshan, DDG and Regional Director (South), Ministry of Tourism.
The nine-day familiarisation tour spans across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, offering the delegation an in-depth understanding of community development models, sustainable tourism practices, and the cultural diversity of southern India.

As part of the programme, the journalists engaged with artisans at the Chenamangalam Handloom village, interacted with coastal communities in Alappuzha, and experienced a houseboat tour to gain insights into Kerala’s unique backwater tourism.

Ms. Dhanya Sanal, IIS, Director PIB & AIR Kochi, briefed the delegation on the Government of India’s communication infrastructure and the role of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in ensuring vital information reaches citizens at the grassroots level.
