South Goa district administration celebrates 10 years of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

South Goa District Administration in association with the Directorate of Women and Child Development has celebrated International Women’s Day and 10 years of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex on 08/03/2025, reaffirming its commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Shri Subhash Phal Dessai, Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare, River Navigation, Archives & Archaeology was the Chief Guest and Col Suman Kumari, Commanding Officer, 5 Technical Training Regiment, Bambolim was the Special Guest for the Occasion. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Ms. Egna Cleetus, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, South Goa, Shri Tikam Singh Verma, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Goa and Shri. Manuel Barreto, Director, Directorate of Women and Child Development.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from dignitaries, officials from various government departments, school children, and women achievers from various fields. The celebration highlighted the achievements of women who have excelled in sports, academics, administration, entrepreneurship, and social service including maintenance of law and order, serving as role models for future generations.
A key highlight of the program was the felicitation of school children who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance in board examinations and extracurricular activities, as well as women achievers who have made remarkable contributions in their respective domains.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Subhash Phal Dessai, Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare, River Navigation, Archives & Archaeology lauded the efforts of the South Goa administration in implementing welfare programs for women and girls. The event also included inspiring speeches especially by Col. Suman Kumari, Commanding Officer, 5 Technical Training Regiment, Bambolim, cultural performances, and awareness sessions emphasizing the importance of education, safety, and equal opportunities for women.
Ms. Egna Cleetus, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate, South Goa said during the occasion that International Women’s Day is not only a day only to celebrate extraordinary achievements but also a day to celebrate the spirit of ordinary women, who have played extraordinary roles in shaping families, communities and society.
The Shri. Tikam Singh Verma, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Goa, emphasized the importance of women’s safety and empowerment, assuring continued efforts to create a safe and supportive environment for women and girls.
The administration reiterated its commitment to further strengthening initiatives that uplift and empower women in all spheres of life. The event concluded with a renewed pledge to continue working towards a society where every girl has access to education, safety, and opportunities to realize her full potential.
