Maharashtra Postal Circle Celebrates National Handloom Day with Special Cancellation

In a heartfelt celebration of National Handloom Day, the Chief Postmaster General, Shri Kishan Kumar Sharma unveiled a special postal cancellation at the Mumbai General Post Office (GPO) on 7th August 2024. The event underscores the vital role of handloom and khadi industries in preserving India's rich cultural heritage and supporting local artisans.
The function was graced by Shri Abhijeet Bansode, Director Postal Services (HQ), and Shri Ajinkya Kale, Director Postal Services, Mumbai Region, who lent their support to the cause. Shri Yogesh Bhambre, State Director of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, was present for the ceremony. Shri Aasim Khan, IPoS probationer also attended the function.
Shri. Kishan Kumar Sharma in his address, highlighted the importance of actively fostering the growth of khadi, village industries, and related sectors. He emphasized that such initiatives not only help in preserving traditional crafts but also play a crucial role in generating employment and supporting sustainable livelihoods.
Shri Yogesh Bhambre expressed his gratitude to the Postal Department for its initiative and for providing space to showcase the rich variety of khadi and village industry products and emphasized the significance of promoting and supporting these traditional industries.
The event featured stalls from three notable units, including Khadi, Village Industry, and the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), showcasing a diverse range of khadi clothing for men and women, leather goods, and other traditional crafts.
The occasion was further enriched by the presence of eminent philatelists and dedicated staff from the Postal Department, who contributed to making the event a resounding success.
The special cancellation released will serve as a lasting tribute to the significance of National Handloom Day, celebrating the craftsmanship and heritage of India's handloom industry.
