Record Budget allocation of Rs.6362 Crore for rail projects in Tamil Nadu: Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav

The Union Budget 2024-25 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, has allocated Rs 6,362 crore for railway projects in Tamil Nadu. This is seven times more than the allocation of Rs. 879 crore during the years from 2009 to 2014, the Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw has said today in a press conference.
Speaking to reporters here today, he said that in the last ten years from 2014 to 2024, 1,302 km of new railway tracks have been laid and 2,152 km of railway lines have been electrified in Tamil Nadu. He said 22 projects of 2,587 km of new lines at a cost of Rs. 33,467 crore are currently underway in the state.
Chennai Egmore, Chennai Beach, MGR Chennai Central, Chennai Park, Ambattur, Avadi, Perambur, Mambalam, Guindy, Tambaram, Chrompet, Arakkonam, Ariyalur, Coimbatore Junction, Coimbatore North, Madurai, Jolarpettai, Srirangam, Rameswaram, Nagercoil, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Tiruchendur and Tiruppur. As many as 77 railway stations in Tamil Nadu, including Tiruvannamalai, Vellore and Salem, will be revamped/redeveloped as Amrit Bharat Railway Stations.
There are 687 rail flyovers & under- bridges have been constructed during 2014-24 in the state, the Minister said.
In Kerala, in the last 10 years, the daily average electrification of railway lines increased to 49km compared to 10 km during 2009-14.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that 106 Railway Over Bridges and under-bridges have been constructed in the State since 2014 and 35 railway stations including Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kollam, Guruvayur, Thrissur, Punalur, Chalakudy, Kozhikode and Alappuzha will be upgraded as Amrita Bharat Railway Stations.
