India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale- 2023

India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale, 2023 is being held from 9th to 15th December, 2023 with inaugural on 8th December, 2023 at Red Fort, Delhi.  This will be open for public till 31.3.2024.

The Biennale is designed to initiate a holistic conversation between artists, architects, designers, photographers, collectors, connoisseurs, curators, art professionals, gallerists, academic institutions, researchers, students and youth to strengthen the cultural dialogue and provide them with avenues and opportunities.

There are 7 themed pavilions as follows:

Day 1: Pravesh (Doors of India), Rite of Passage.

Day 2: Bagh-e-Bahar (Gardens of India), Gardens as universe.

Day 3: Sampravah (Baolis of India), Confluence of Communities.

Day 4: Sthapatya (Temples of India), Antifragile Alogrithm.

Day 5: Vismaya (Architectural Wonders of Independent India), Creative Crossovers.

Day 6: Deshaj (Indigenous Design), Bharat x Design.

Day 7: Samatva (Women in Architecture and Design), Shaping the Built.

The India Art Architecture and Design Biennale, 2023 is being organised with the intention of it being a global cultural initiative and the flagship programme of the Ministry of Culture.

Aim: To invigorate the cultural space and creative industries and leverage the Arts for Global Cultural Diplomacy & Connect.

Objective:

  • Showcase traditional, grassroot artisans as well as contemporary designers, curators & thought leaders cutting across age, gender & genre lines.
  • Celebrate the best that our country has to offer in the fields of ancient, modern, contemporary and tech driven art, architecture and design.

he expenditure made on organizing the said programme will be met from the sanctioned budget of the Ministry of Culture.

Yes, the Government has invited artists and curators from all over the country as per Annexure.

Annexure

ANNEXURE REFERRED IN PART (e) OF LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1378 DUE FOR ANSWER ON 11.12.2023 REGARDING “DESIGN BIENNALE, 2023”.

Artists and curators from all over the country have been invited to participate in IAADB as part of the various elements of the Biennale such as themed pavilions, open call exhibition, art workshops, art bazaar, student biennale as well as artisans involved in the Aatmanirbhar Centre for Design (ABCD).

Themed Pavilions

Each of the themed pavilions has representation from across the country in terms of the visual artists, mural artists, installation artists, graphic designers & model makers. Additionally, the curators as well as Research teams for the seven collaborative publications have been drawn from academic institutions & organisations from various parts of the country.

Open Call Exhibition

Of the 560 queries received, 150 artists from all parts of the country have been given a chance to showcase their works in a purely crowd-sourced, public exhibition.

Student Biennale

600+ Architecture Schools and 5000+ Academic design Students from 500+ academic institutions are taking part in the student biennale, being held at Lalit Kala Akademi.

Art Workshops & Art Bazaar

Additionally, through 15+ art workshops as well as 25+ vendors at the art bazaar selling artware, there is pan-India representation.

ABCD

Artisans/craft persons from 20 states have found representation in the Aatmanirbhar Centre for Design.
