District Crafts & Weaves Mahotsav organized to Promote Local Artisans

Goa, 31 October 2023 

 

A District Crafts & Weaves Mahotsav is being organized by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts),  at KTC Bus stand in Shiroda, Ponda. The inauguration of the seven-day Mini Exhibition and sales expo was held on 29th October 2023 and was carried out by Shri. Subhash Shirodkar, Minister for Water Resource Development, Government of Goa. The initiative is being organized under as a Craft Demonstration cum Awareness Programme (CDAP) under the National Handicrafts Development Program of the Union Ministry of Textiles.

This exhibition aims to focus on promoting local artisans and fostering a spirit of "Atmanirbhar Bharat" or self-reliant India. The District Crafts & Weaves Mahotsav will provide a platform for artisans from Shiroda, South Goa, to showcase their exceptional craftsmanship and talents. Various crafts, including Hand Embroidery & Crochet, Jewellery, Painting, Coconut, Terracotta, and more, will be on display and available for sale. Visitors can also witness live demonstrations, adding an interactive dimension to the event.In an effort to further promote and encourage local crafts, competitions among artisans as well as  school and college students are also being held in this celebration of traditional skills and creativity.

   

The District Crafts & Weaves Mahotsav seeks to be a convergence of culture, art, and commerce, showcasing the rich heritage of South Goa. The exhibition will continue to be on display till 4th November 2023
