Monitoring of Reservoirs by Central Water Commission

Central Water Commission monitors live storage status of 143 important reservoirs in the country, on weekly basis and is issuing weekly bulletin on every Thursday. The total live storage capacity of 143 reservoirs is 177.464 BCM which is about 68.83% of the live storage capacity of 257.812 BCM which is estimated to have been created in the country. As per reservoir storage bulletin dated 27.10.2022 (being the last Thursday of the Monsoon season, 2022), out of 143 reservoirs, 45 reservoirs had full storage, i.e, up to FRL.

Further, as per latest reservoir storage bulletin dated 02.03.2023, out of 143 reservoirs only 1 reservoir (SAPUA, Odisha) had full storage, i.e. up to FRL.

State wise details of reservoirs with storage equal to and less than 80% of average of last 10 years is at Annexure.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Bishweswar Tudu in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
