Union Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik, visited Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (AYJNISHD), Mumbai on 29th December 2022. As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’,  Minister, unveiled the information display about the “Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities” (UDID) at the institue. It is a project which is being implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India with a view of creating a National Database for PwDs, and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each person with disabilities for availing all the facilities. The project will encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering the government benefits to the person with disabilities and also ensure uniformity. The project, which is being implemented at the institute will also help in stream-lining the tracking of physical and financial progress of ‘Divyangjan’ beneficiaries at all levels of hierarchy of implementation – from village level, block level, District level, State level and National level.

 During her visit to AYJNISHD (D) Mumbai, Minister interacted with the young childerns and infants with speech and hearing disabilities and with their parents. She appreciated efforts of the Institute and its staff and students in providing a dedicated service to ‘Divyangjan’, especially persons with speech and hearing disabilities.
