Vigilance Awareness Week-2022 at CGST Mumbai South Commissionerate, Air India Building Nariman Point Mumbai

Commemorating the Birth Anniversary of Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and as per the directives of Central Vigilance Commission and Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC), Vigilance Awareness Week – 2022(VAW-2022) was observed in CGST Mumbai South Commissionerate from 31.10.2022 to 06.11.2022 on the theme “Corruption Free India for a Developed Nation”.

At the onset of VAW-2022, Officers and staff of Mumbai South took the Integrity Pledge at the conference hall of the Head Office situated at 15th Floor Air India Bldg., Nariman Point Mumbai and at the offices situated at Meher Building and Old Customs house.

On 01.11.2022, a seminar on the theme of VAW 2022 i.e. “Corruption Free India for a Developed Nation” was organised at the Air India Auditorium. Eminent personality Justice (Retd.) Ambadas Joshi, Lokayukta, Goa delivered the keynote address on the theme and shared his experiences and thoughts on various aspects to combat corruption. The occasion was also graced by D.K.Srinivas, Hon’ble Chief Commissioner CGST Mumbai Zone, U.Niranjan, Principal Commissioner Mumbai South CGST Comm’rate and P.Mohan Rao, Commissioner Audit I Mumbai Commissionerate. Various aspects such as political, economic, and social causes of corruption and its adverse impact on Indian economy were highlighted by the speakers during the seminar. Further, steps taken by the Ministry and the department in tackling this menace on a macro and micro level were also enumerated. CGST departments focus on increased digitisation during the COVID time thereby minimising the interface of staff with the trade, has not only led to trade facilitation but also increased transparency in day to day working of the department.

During the week, various activities including competitions like quiz, slogan making, poster making were organised for the officers and staff of the Commissionerate with a view to educate and develop awareness of the CCS CCA Rules, 1965 and the CCS Conduct Rules,1964 so as to inculcate a spirit of probity and propriety in the staff. The officers and staff of the CGST, Mumbai South Commissionerate participated in all these events enthusiastically.

The week culminated on 04.11.2022 with a walkathon by the Officers and staff of Mumbai South and Audit I Commissionerate at Marine lines to bring across the message of “Corruption Free India for a Developed Nation” to the general public at large in which U.Niranjan ,Principal Commissioner CGST, Mumbai South Commissionerate, Rajiv Garg, Additional Commissioner CGST, Mumbai South Commissionerate, Ms Priyadarshika Srivastava Additional Commissioner CGST, Mumbai South Commissionerate, Anand Gokhale, Joint Commissioner, Audit, along with the Senior officers and staff participated.
