Mumbai, 26 July 2022

The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) Mumbai Circle celebrated ‘Kargil Vijay Divas’, as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, at Aga Khan Palace in Pune today, in memory of the sacrifices of the country’s brave war-heroes.

The event started with spectacular band performance by the Central Reserved Police Force of Talegao division, Pune and singing of the national anthem by the CRPF and ASI Mumbai Circle officers. It was followed by an elocution competition on the theme ‘Freedom fighters of India’  in which around 50 students from Sant Gadgebaba School, Pune participated. A few students also sang patriotic songs on the occasion. These students were felicitated by Inspector Jayshankar Avasthi of CRPF, Pune and Mrs Falguni Katkar, Assistant Archaeologist, ASI Mumbai Circle.

Kargil Vijay Diwas

Kargil Vijay Divas is celebrated on this day every year to commemorate India’s Victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. The Kargil war between India and Pakistan broke out in May 1999, and the intense fight between the nations continued for sixty days. Finally, on 26th July that year, the war was officially declared over, proclaiming the Indian army victorious. Even though India became victorious, we lost 527 courageous souls, and 1363 soldiers were wounded in the war!
