Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani chaired the Sub zonal meeting on 8 years of achievements in Goa. Shri Bhagwat Karad, Union Minister of State for Finance; Shri Vishwajit Rane, Minister of Women and Child Development, Government of Goa were present on this occasion. The meeting  included participation of representatives from Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

Addressing the event, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani said, today UNICEF has validated the work of the Government of India. The work is a great blessing as a society. The word ‘achievement’ has a message that, when it comes to emancipation of women and children, men are equal partners . When we talk about child rights, it is not only the girl child, but also we talk about the rights of the male child.

 

One of the major achievements in the last 8 years of the government is the unanimous passing the reforms in Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 in Parliament, said Smt Irani ; Child care institutions can now be set up only after the antecedents of these institutions are cleared by District administration and the Superintendent of Police, and cooperative federalism in governance and whole of the government approach is one of the great achievements in the last eight years.

The Union Minister further said that the aim of the government is to deliver justice and help to the needy. Today, one crore ninety lakh women are deployed in community services, which is the largest number anywhere in the world; around two crore eighty lakh women in the country are novel digital literates due to the efforts of min of women and child development, 14 lakh women representatives in Panchayats and 9 lakh ASHA Workers are working, 70% beneficiaries of ‘PM Mudra Yojana’ are women, is a great success story.

Today we have 708 One stop centers and 35 functional women helpline numbers across the country and together they have helped 70 lakh women.

Smt. Irani praised the Government of Goa for implementing the ‘My Life-My Pad’ Scheme. The sanitary pads for the women beneficiaries are distributed through the self-help groups.

 

Smt. Irani announced that Goa would get 60 new 60 Anganwadis in the 60th year of Goa Liberation. Also, Centre will support the establishment of two model anganwadis in each block with state of the art infrastructure and digital equipment. Union Minister also announced a new ‘One Stop Centre’ in South Goa. 

Addressing the meeting, Union Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Karad said, the reforms in the governance done in the last 8 years are reflecting through the performance. ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ is one of the biggest successes in the last 8 years. Through ‘Jan Aushadhi’ Kendra Women are getting a sanitary pad for 1 rupee. This has changed the health dynamics in rural areas of the country, said Dr Karad. 

Vishwajit Rane in his address said the government is working with a whole of the government approach for the welfare of women and children. He informed that 3 lakh beneficiaries are attached to the scheme of ‘My Life-My Pad’. Government has been paying attention towards child protection with civil right organisations.

UNICEF made a presentation on the achievements in the last 8 years in the field of Women and Child Development.   Beneficiaries of various government viz. PM Mudra Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Poshan Abhiyan and other schemes from Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu shared their experiences. They expressed their happiness as government support changed their life entirely and gained a place of honor in society.
