Union Minister of state for Railways, Coal and Mines, Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve inaugurated INDIA GEM & JEWELLERY SHOW (GJS 2022), the B2B Jewellery Expo being organized by industry body All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), in Mumbai today. The Expo is being held from 3rd April to 6th April at Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.

GJS 2022 comprises top-of-the-line manufacturers/wholesalers in Gold, Studded, Diamond, Couture Jewellery, Gemstone, Pearls, Loose Diamonds, Allied and Machinery as well as dealers from all over the industry. GJS includes the participation of a large number of exhibitors from across India.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the expo, Union Minister Shri Danve underlined the importance of trust and how it is instrumental to the gem and jewellery sector. The Minister exhorted the industry that they should be able to build the same level of citizen trust towards domestically produced gold, as that enjoyed by international gold.

The Minister said that trust is foundational also to the governance philosophy of the government led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He sressed that we should make the nation self-reliant, recalling the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.

Mr Ashish Pethe, Chairman, All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), said, “We have received overwhelming responses from exhibitors for this show. Jewellery manufacturers and retailers have prepared exclusive designs with more emphasis laid on lightweight and rich-look ornaments. We are confident that exhibitors would make good business deals at this event with innovative and exquisite jewellery sales.”

GJS is being organized on the demand of the jewellery value chain participants who felt the need of such an event to showcase their contemporary jewellery designs and exchange business ideas with other industry players.

The organizers aim to make it the ultimate sourcing platform for doing business and expect that the show will create a conducive atmosphere for the retailers to explore various exclusive and trendsetting jewellery, apart from encouraging a strong business relationship.

The Gems and Jewellery industry contributes around 7% to the country's overall GDP and employs over 5 million people. The sector also played a key role in India achieving the $400 billion merchandise export milestone, by contributing 10% of the value.

The Government has set a target of $ 50 billion for FY 2022-23, and has also opened up new channels for growth by executing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with UAE and Australia that will have immense benefit for the Indian gem and jewellery industry.

India ranks first among the top exporters in cut & polished diamonds, and second in gold jewellery, silver jewellery and lab-grown diamonds.
