ICCR organizes Gala Evening in Mumbai as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs organized ‘Gala Evening’- an evening of dance and music, a coming together of various forms of performing art, at the National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA), Nariman Point in Mumbai on 24th February 2022, as part of ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
The ‘Gala Evening’ was filled with performances including classical dances, folk and tribal dance forms as well as contemporary dance performances. The performances included Maharashtra’s traditional dance form Lavani, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bhangra, Garba and Dandiya. Cultural performances by various dance groups from across the country made the occasion vibrant.
In his address, Guest of Honour, ICCR President and Rajya Sabha M P Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said, “Art is a vehicle towards liberation and hence this event is being organized as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.” He also spoke about various initiatives being launched by the External Affairs Ministry, including Craft Mela that showcases Indian crafts and ‘Gen-Next Democratic Network’, where young political leaders from 75 democracies are invited to India.

- Mudra Creations from Mumbai (Lavani); Guru: Mr.Manish Waghmare
- Punjabi Folk Art & Culture Society (Bhangra Group from Chandigarh); Guru: Hardeep Singh
- Siddhi Dhamal Group from Baroda; Guru: Badshah Altaf
- Pung Cholam Group from Delhi; Group Leader Salam Khoiba
- Aavishkar Academy of Performing Arts, Ahmedabad (Garba & Dandiya); Guru: Shri Kalpesh Dalal
- Bharatanatyam and Kathak Group from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai; Director: Dr.Uma Rele
- Gauru Sharma Tripathi’s Contemporary Dance Group from Mumbai.
Justice Sadhana Jadhav, Judge, Bombay High Court; Justice Revati Dere, Judge, Bombay High Court and Shri Shaktikanta Das, RBI Governor, were also present during the occasion.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is an autonomous organization under Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India’s first Education Minister. It is a nodal body for the projection of India’s soft power abroad. Ever since its establishment, it has emerged as the principal governmental organization for our cultural and academic engagement with the world.
