Indian Institute of Information Technology Nagpur holds first convocation ceremony

Student should become job creators rather than job seekers: Union Minister of State for Education Subhash Sarkar

Higher education needs a holistic and multidisciplinary approach so that it contributes to the sustainable livelihood and economic development of the nation. Students should become job creators rather than job seekers, opined Union Minister of State for Education Shri Subhash Sarkar today. He was addressing the first convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Information Technology Nagpur (IIITN).

Highlighting the importance of start-ups in the country, the Minister stated that start-ups are going to be the backbone of New India, following the visionary approach of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He added that the central government has been promoting new startups in both software and manufacturing sectors.


Shri Sarkar stressed the importance of ancient Indian traditional knowledge systems and said that ancient India has immensely contributed to the field of mathematics. Ancient scriptures like Rig Veda have mentioned scientific terms like velocity of light, mechanism of ships and aircraft. Students should know these traditional Indian Knowledge systems to strengthen their roots, suggested the Minister.

 

 

Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Chairman, Board of Governors (BoG), IIIT Nagpur said that the ambitious ‘Digital India’ program is based on 3 targets - to create digital architecture in the country, to ensure the digital delivery of services to citizens and to digitally empower them. He expected that the skills learnt by the students at IITN will help in achieving these targets. He also urged the students to help their neighbouring communities with innovative ways using cutting-edge technology. He appealed to the students to foster entrepreneurship skills to pave the way for ‘Made in India’ products.

50 students received PG. Diploma in Information & Communication Technology and 195 students were awarded B.Tech. Degree in Computer Science Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering streams, at the convocation ceremony held today.
Mr. Ankit Barai of the 2021 batch from CSE branch with CGPA 9.99 and Ms. Anushri Laddha of 2020 batch from CSE branch with CGPA 9.56 were awarded the “Institute Academic Excellence Award” (IAEA) for outstanding academic performance in the graduating batch of B.Tech students.

Senate Chairman and Director, IIIT Nagpur, Dr. O. G. Kakde presented the institute report and highlighted the students’ and institute’s achievements over the last 5 years. Mr. Kailas Dakhale, Registrar IIITN presented the Vote of thanks.

Padole, Director, VNIT, Nagpur & BOG Member, IIITN; Dr. Aatish Daryapurkar Asst. Prof. (BS) & BOG Member, IIITN; Dr. Avinash G. Keskar, Professor, VNIT & Senate Member, IIITN; Shri. Arvind Kumar, Centre Head, TCS, Nagpur & Senate Member, IIITN; were present on this occasion, apart from graduating students, their family members, teaching and non-teaching staff of IITN. The ceremony took place at the Waranga campus at Wardha road, Nagpur.


 

IITN is an institute of national importance and it was inaugurated on 14th April 2017 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.  The institute has been functioning from its permanent campus at Waranga on Wardha Road which is 95% developed by National Building Construction Corporation Limited. The institute offers graduate degrees in Computer Science Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication. It also provides PG diploma in Information & Communication Technology, jointly with Military College of Tele-Communication Engineering Mhow (Madhya Pradesh), with provision for M.Tech for Military Officers deputed for undergoing training program of the level of Graduate Engineering Equipment Orientation (GEEO) Course.
