Lt Gen Mohanty Takes over as Army Commander of Training Command
Lt Gen JK Mohanty has assumed the appointment of GOC-in-C Army Training Command (ARTRAC) Shimla. An infantry officer, he is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadkwasla and was commissioned in the Dogra Regiment in 1969. Prior to taking over his new assignment, Lt Gen Mohanty was Commandant of Indian Army’s premier officers training establishment for combat training, Army War College, Mhow (MP).

Lt Gen Mohanty has held several coveted command, staff and instructional appointments. These include command of a unit in high altitude and counter insurgency in Jammu & Kashmir. During his tenure as Commanding Officer, his unit was awarded the three highest peace time gallantry awards in a single operation, ie Äshok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra. For this operation he was decorated with the Sena Medal. An alumni of the CDM and the NDC, he successfully commanded a Mountain and an Infantry Brigade. After tenure as Military Attaché to the VCOAS at Army HQ Gen Mohanty commanded an Infantry Division at the Line of Control. He also held the appt of Additional Military Secretary at the Army HQ. For his outstanding services, he was awarded VSM in 2003 and UYSM in 2004. He also commanded a Corps from Oct 2005 to Jan 2007. He is Colonel of the Dogra regiment and Dogra Scouts since May 2006.

ARTRAC is responsible for the coordination of various facts of professional and technical training in twenty seven training establishments of the Army. He has taken over the reins of ARTRAC from Lt Gen ML Naidu, who has since taken over as VCOAS.
