Dasmunsi releases DVDs on Freedom Struggle and Gandhiji
Minister for Information and Broadcasting & Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today released the DVDs ‘Swarajnama’ and ‘Mahatama’, brought out by Prasar Bharati. Based mainly on the material retrieved from Doordarshan archives, the two DVDs provide different facets of India’s freedom struggle and the life of Mahatama Gandhi. The Minister presented the first copy of the DVD to Shri Girish Karnad.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said that these DVDs would be of immense value for the youth, as they provide a deep insight into India’s history of freedom movement. He praised Prasar Bharati’s effort in bringing out these DVDs. The Minister said that Prasar Bharati has already launched a project of rendition of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s songs in Hindi and other Indian languages. He appealed for strengthening the public service broadcasting role of Pasar Bharati.

‘Swarajnama’ is directed by noted film personality Girish Karnad. Beginning with 1757, it recounts 190 years of India’s freedom struggle, and is in a newscast format. ‘Mahatama’ has been directed by Brijendra Virehi. It remembers and focuses on the values that Mahatama loved and cherished.

Noted Gandhian Smt. Nirmala Deshpande and Secretary, I&B, Smt. Asha Swarup were present on the occasion.
