Field post order launched for Defence service personnel
A new facility for remittance of money by Defence personnel to their families was launched by the Army Postal Service (APS) today in the form of “Field Postal Order”. This convenient, safe and economical remittance facility, meant exclusively for defence personnel, was formally launched with the handing over of the Field Postal Order to Lt Gen Sudhir Sharma, Quartermaster General and Colonel Commandant Army Postal Service by Mr IMG Khan, Secretary, Dept of Posts at a simple ceremony held at 1 Central Base Post Office at Delhi Cantt today.

The Army Postal Service is committed provide a wide range of communication, financial and logistic services to the troops and units. With banking facilities not widely available in the Field / Counter Insurgency Operations areas, getting bank drafts made proved to be a time consuming and costly process for troops. There was a need felt to offer Defence personnel a convenient and cost effective facility for remitting money to their families. The Field Postal Order, which is available through Field Post Offices only, in six denominations viz : Rs 2,000/-, 3,000/-, 5,000/-, 10,000/-, 15,000/- and 20,000/- with commission charges varying between Rs 30/- to Rs 90/- can be encashed in any civil or Army Post Office in India, effectively addresses this genuine need of Defence personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Dept of Posts highlighted the salient features of the service, and exhorted the Defence personnel to make full use of this unique facility. The Quartermaster General, while appreciating the Army Postal Service for taking initiative in introducing the service, said that this facility will mitigate the hardships being faced by the Defence personnel for remitting money to their kith & kin.

A large gathering of service officers of the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, and HQ Delhi Area attended the function. While welcoming the gathering ,Maj Gen V Sadasivam, Addl DG APS thanked the Secretary, Dept of Posts for introducing this service exclusively for defence personnel. Brig AK Shori, DDG APS proposed the vote of thanks.
