Lieutenant General Pr Ganagadharan to take over as new Military Secretary
Lt Gen PR Gangadharan takes over as the Military Secretary on 01 October 2006 at the Army Headquarters.

Born on 21 Apr 1948, Lieutenant General PR Gangadharan did his schooling from Bangalore and Sainik School, Satara. He joined NDA (33rd Course) and was commissioned into 4th Battalion the Maratha Light Infantry on 21 December 1968 from IMA

General Gangadharan saw action in the Jaisalmer and Barmer sectors in the 1971 war while serving with 4th Battalion the Maratha Light Infantry. He commanded the same battalion in Arunachal and subsequently commanded a Rashtriya Rifles Sector in Jammu & Kashmir. As a Major General, he commanded a RAPID (STRIKE) Division in Op PARAKARAM. In his previous assignment, the General Officer commanded a Desert Corps.

Lieutenant General Gangadharan is the Colonel of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry. He has attended several courses, important ones being Defence Services Staff College, Senior Command Course, Long Defence Management Course and National Defence College. He is a Masters in Military Science and Management Studies. During his distinguished career spanning four decades, the General Officer has held varied important appointments including Deputy Military Secretary at Military Secretary’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Brigadier (Operational Logistics) in a Command Headquarters, Military Assistant to VCOAS and Additional Director General (Ceremonial & Warfare), Army Headquarters. He has held several important instructional appointments at Infantry School, Mhow, IMA, Dehradun, DS Coord (OC School), HQ IMTRAT and at the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad.

The General was awarded Vishisht Sewa Medal for his distinguished command of a Rashtriya Rifles Sector in counter insurgency operations and Bar to the VSM and Ati Vishisht Sewa Medal while serving at Army Headquarters.
