Shri K. Venkatapathy assumes the charge of Minister of State for Law & Justice
Shri K. Venkatapathy assumed his charge as Minister of State for Law & Justice here today. He visited his Office at Shastri Bhawan where he was received by Shri R.L. Meena, Secretary Legal Affairs, Shri T.K. Vishwanathan, Secretary Legislative Affairs, Shri K.D. Singh, Addl. Secretary (Admn), Shri N.L. Meena, Jt. Secretary (Admn.) and other senior officers of the Ministry.
Born on 15th June, 1946 at Soundaravalli Palayam Village of Sankarapuram Taluk in Villupuram District of Tamil Nadu. Shri Venkatapathy holds a degree in Law from Law college of Chennai in 1969. He was enrolled as an advocate in the Bar council of Tamil Nadu, and started his career at Cuddalore in the year 1970, practicing on Civil & Criminal sides.
Shri Venkatapathy started his political career during his college days by actively participating in Public meetings of the DMK party. He was associated with the student’s wing of the DMK party. He received Silver medal from Dr.M.G. Ramachandran who was the then treasurer of DMK, in an Essay competition conducted by the DMK party, about the Students wing and the future of the DMK party. He has also held the post of President of Indo Soviet Cultural Society and conducted cultural programme by the Soviet Artists at Kallakurichi.
Shri Venkatapathy was elected as DMK Secretary of Sankarapuram block for three terms and also elected as a State Executive Member of the DMK party thrice. He also served as Trade Union Leader of the Kallakurichi Co-operative Sugar Mills for many years. He was nominated as a Senate Member of the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University for 3 years.
Shri Venkatapathy also served as President and Secretary of the Lions Club at Kalakurichi. He has also been the President of Hercules Gymnasium, Kalakurichi for more than 25 years. He was imprisoned at various occasions for participating political agitations organized by the DMK party. He is a very good orator.
Married to Srimathi Vasantha in 1974, Shri Venkatapathy is blessed with one daughter Ms.Vanmathi, who is a Doctor and married to a Doctor Mr. Rajesh.
Shri Venkatapathy contested in the Lok Sabha elections 2004 from the Cuddalore constituency on DMK ticket and got elected with a margin of 1,32,000 votes.
