Govt approves Senior Army appointments
The Government today approved the appointments of the next Vice Chief of Army Staff and three Army Commanders.
Lt Gen S Pattabhiraman, presently the Western Army Commander is approved to be the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff with effect from 01 Oct 05. He is to take over from Lt Gen BS Thakur on his retirement.
Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor, presently Army Commander at the Training Command, Shimla is transferred and posted as Northern Army Commander. He will assume his new appointment by 05 Sep 05. He replaces Lt Gen Hari Prasad who has retired on 31 Aug 05. Commissioned in Regiment of Artillery in June 1967, he is an alumunus of National Defence College and Defence Services Staff College. He was appointed as the Army Commander of the Training Command in April 2005.
The Government has also approved the promotion of Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, presently GOC of a Corps in the North East as Army Commander with effect from 01 Sep 05. He will take over as the Army Commander, Western Army with effect from 01 Oct 05 vice Lt Gen S Pattabhiraman who will then take over as the Vice Chief. Lt Gen Daljeet, an Armoured Corps Officer was commissioned into 8th Light Cavalry. He is an alumunus of National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy.
Lt Gen KS Jamwal, presently Chief of Staff, Army Training Command, Shimla will take over as the Army Commander of the Training Command with effect from 01 Oct 05. He will take over the vacancy arising on retirement of Lt Gen BS Thakur, the Vice Chief and the move of Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor to take over the Northern Army. Lt Gen KS Jamwal was commissioned into the Regiment of the Artillery. Lt Gen KS Jamwal has been Additional Director General, Staff Duties at the Army Headquarters. He has also commanded the prestigious Desert Corps in the recent past.
