Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is implementing a centrally sponsored "PM Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme" for providing financial, technical and business support for setting up of new/ upgradation of micro food processing enterprises in the country. The duration of the scheme 2020-21 to 2024-25 which has been extended for the period of one year till March, 2026.
The status of implementation of PM Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, as on 31.10.2025, is as under:
- Centre Share of Rs. 4,306.40 Crores. has been released for implementation of various components of the Scheme.
- 1,62,744 loans have been sanctioned including Credit Linked Subsidy of Rs. 4,684.65 cr.
- Seed capital assistance has been approved to 3,65,935 Self Help Group (SHG) members for Rs. 1,244.96 crore
- 76 incubation centres have been approved.
- Under Capacity Building, 1,26,353 beneficiaries have been trained.
22,524 loans have been sanctioned for setting up/upgradation of One District One Products (ODOP) based micro food processing units. 137 unique ODOP have been notified across 726 districts in 35 States/UTs.

The Scheme provides Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training for individual and group applicants and Self-Help Group (SHG) seed capital beneficiaries engaged in micro food processing through Master Trainers and Districts Level Trainers. At the State level, training programmes are organised and coordinated by State Level Technical Institutions (SLTIs), while monitoring of training delivery is undertaken by district-level officers appointed by the State Nodal Agency (SNA). This includes verification of training conduct and internal assessment of beneficiaries to assess learning outcomes and training effectiveness. In addition to the two National Level Technical Institutions, namely NIFTEM-Kundli and NIFTEM-Thanjavur, a total of 43 SLTIs have been identified at the State level, based on recommendations of the respective SNAs and approval of the Ministry, to support effective implementation and monitoring of the capacity-building component under the PMFME Scheme. The State-wise beneficiary trained is at Annexure-I.
Under the Branding & Marketing component of PMFME Scheme, grant of upto 50% of the eligible project cost is provided to groups of Farmer Producer Organisation (FPOs), cooperatives, SHGs and State or regional Special Purpose Vehicle (SPVs) of micro food processing enterprises to develop a common umbrella brand at the State or regional level. The component provides support for packaging & branding, quality control, tie-ups with retail and e-commerce platforms, product standardization and food safety adherence for consumer retail sales. Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has got conducted a third-party mid-term impact evaluation of the PMFME scheme to assess the impact of the scheme. The study has highlighted that the integration of technology and financial support through PMFME has helped entrepreneurs by increasing their production capacity, turn over and business growth, leading to income generation, market access/linkages and promotion of vocal for local. Based on the information captured in the PMFME MIS portal, 8,54,167 direct and indirect employment has been generated and 56,168 micro food processing units have been formalized as on 31.10.2025.
