EV CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE UNDER PRADHAN MANTRI E-DRIVE SCHEME

An allocation of Rs.2,000 crore has been done under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE)scheme for deployment of public EV charging infrastructure (including EV PCS, Battery Swapping Stations, and Battery Charging Stations) on pan India basis including metros, smart cities and major cities.Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, Government of India (GOI) Ministries/Departments, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), States/Union Territories and their PSUs are eligible to submit proposals for installation of Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EV PCS). Proposals are to be submitted through the nodal agency(ies) designated by the concerned Ministry or State/UT, which aggregate demand for EV PCS. The implementation may be undertaken directly by the concerned entities or through engagement of Charge Point Operators (CPOs).

The scheme provides capital subsidies for upstream infrastructure and EVSE (charger) and the subsidy is up to 100% based on the location category.

The Operational Guidelines for deployment of EV Charging Infrastructure under the PM E-DRIVE scheme have been issued on 26.09.2025 outlining the priorities and criteria adopted for expanding the EV charging network in metros and smart cities etc. The guidelines also outline mechanisms and measures in place to ensure effective operation and continuous monitoring of charging stations.
