Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs launched initiatives to engage public in Parliamentary processes through education and outreach programmes
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs organizes following Youth Parliament Competitions for the students of schools, colleges and universities in coordination with the respective stakeholder organizations:
(i) Youth Parliament Competition for schools under the Directorate of Education of Govt. of NCT of Delhi and Department of Education of New Delhi Municipal Council;
(ii) National Youth Parliament Competition for Kendriya Vidyalayas;
(iii) National Youth Parliament Competition for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas; and
(iv) National Youth Parliament Competition for Universities/Colleges.
(v) National Youth Parliament Competition for Eklavya Model Residential Schools (new initiative)
In addition to the above, the Ministry also provides financial assistance to States/UTs for organizing Youth Parliament Competitions as per the guidelines of the Ministry, subject to receipt the claims from them.
The Ministry has also introduced a web-portal of National Youth Parliament Scheme (NYPS) to increase the outreach of Youth Parliament to hitherto untouched sections and corners of the country. All the citizens of the country can participate in the Youth Parliament Programme of the Ministry through the web-portal. To expand the Youth Parliament Programme to ensure wider participation of students, especially from remote and rural areas, the Ministry has unveiled an upgraded version of the National Youth Parliament Scheme (NYPS) web portal, known as NYPS 2.0. Unlike the previous version, which was limited to students of recognized institutions only, NYPS 2.0 is open to all citizens across the country, regardless of gender, caste, creed, religion, race, region and place. Participation can be facilitated through the following ways:
i) Institutional Participation: All educational institutions can participate in this category by organizing the Youth Parliament Sittings as per the guidelines available on the portal. The students from classes VI to XII may be selected for the “Kishore Sabha” sub-category and Under Graduate and Post Graduate level students may be selected for the “Tarun Sabha” sub-category.
ii) Group Participation: A group of citizens can participate in this category by organizing the Youth Parliament Sittings as per the guidelines available on the portal.
iii) Individual Participation: An individual citizen can participate in this category by attempting a quiz on the theme of ‘Bhartiya Democracy in Action’.
The above Youth Parliament Programme of this Ministry is an awareness programme which aims to strengthen the roots of democracy, inculcate healthy habits of discipline, and tolerance of the views of others and to enable the students/citizens to know about practices and procedures of the Parliament and to enhance their knowledge of the functioning of the Government, constitutional values and for living their lives in a democratic way.
