Mineral Production Increases 7.5% in FY 2023-24 Compared to Previous Year
The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for the month of March, 2024 (Base: 2011-12=100) at 156.1 is 1.2 % higher as compared to the level in the month of March, 2023. As per the provisional statistics of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the cumulative growth for the period April-March, 2023-24 over the corresponding period of previous year is 7.5%.
Production level of important minerals in March, 2024 were: Coal 1166 lakh tonne, Lignite 49 lakh tonne, Natural gas (utilized) 3070 million cu. m., Petroleum (crude) 25 lakh tonne, Bauxite 2049 thousand tonne, Chromite 437 thousand tonne, Copper conc. 13.6 thousand tonne , Gold 243 kg, Iron ore 245 lakh tonne, Lead conc. 40 thousand tonne, Manganese ore 352 thousand tonne, Zinc conc. 179 thousand tonne, Limestone 436 lakh tonne, Phosphorite 182 thousand tonne, and Magnesite 14 thousand tonne.
Important minerals showing positive growth during March, 2024 over March, 2023 include: Gold (48%), Magnesite (23%), Manganese Ore (13%), Copper Conc.(12%), Limestone(9%), , Coal (8%), Lignite(7%), Natural gas (U) (6%) and Petroleum(crude) (2%). Other important minerals showing negative growth include Zinc Conc.(-2%), Bauxite (-3%), Lead Conc.(-3%), Iron Ore (-13%), Phosphorite (-17%), and Chromite (-21%).
