Centres of Excellence under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is implementing Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) under which Centres of Excellence (CoEs) can be established for different horticulture crops with technology support from Indian R&D system or can be established through bilateral cooperation. The CoE serves as demonstration and training centre for latest technologies in horticulture development. The centre also serves as source of planting material for fruits and vegetable seedlings for protected cultivation.
Demonstration of modern production techniques for water conservation such as protected structures including poly house & net house, plastic low tunnel, mulching and automated/computer-controlled drip irrigation and fertigation system etc., skill development and capacity building are inter-alia, some of the major interventions of the CoEs. Various technologies for development of horticulture including crop production, post-harvest management, value addition are being demonstrated at these Centres.
As on date, 51 crop specific Centres of Excellence have been approved under Indo-Israel Cooperation, Indo-Dutch Cooperation and through Research Institutes. Â More than 3.4 lakh farmers have been provided training in these Centres.
