Annual Action Plan meetings, mid-year review meetings and other regular meetings with respective State Governments and UT Administrations are held at various levels inter alia which includes review of planning, implementation and progress made so far under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to make provision of tap water supply to every rural household, schools, anganwadi centres, ashramshalas, etc. latest by 2024.
Recently, to discuss various emerging issues and to speed up implementation of JJM, three regional conferences chaired by Union Minister of Jal Shakti were held at Bengaluru, Guwahati & Kolkatta with 22 neighbouring States/UTs. A fourth conference is scheduled at Jaipur with 11 States/UTs. Kerala had participated in the conference held at Bengaluru on 05.03.2022.
Since the launch of JJM in August 2019, as reported by the State, in Kerala11.58 lakh (16.39%) households have been provided with tap water connections. Thus, as on 04.04.2022,out of total 70.68 lakhs households in the State, 28.22 lakhs (39.93%) households have tap water connections.
Under JJM, States/ UTs can utilize upto 2% of their annual allocation for taking up water quality monitoring & surveillance activities. States/ UTs have been advised to upgrade different levels of laboratories i.e. State, district, sub-division and/ or block level and get NABL accreditation and/ or recognition. As reported by States/ UTs, State-wise number of various level drinking water quality testing laboratories set up in the country as on 31.03.2022, is at Annexure–I. States/ UTs have been advised to open these laboratories to general public so that they can get their water samples tested on nominal rates.
Under JJM, every State/ UT has finalized timelines for making provision of tap water supply
to every rural household. In Kerala all households are targeted to be provided with tap connections by Financial Year 2023-24. The district wise planned target details, as reported by the State for providing 100% tap connections are at Annexure-II.
Under JJM, funds are allocated& released State/UT-wise. District-wise fund allocation under JJM is not made and maintained by Government of India. The State/UT-wise allocation, release & utilization of funds since inception of JJM is given at Annexure-III.
