Toilet Building in Rural Areas

Government had launched Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM(G)] with effect from 2nd October, 2014 with the main aim to make the rural areas of the country Open Defecation Free (ODF) by 2nd October, 2019, by providing access to toilets to all the rural households.  Having achieved the outcomes of ODF, Phase-II of SBM(G) is now being implemented from 2020-21 to 2024-25 with the focus, inter alia, to sustain ODF status, to ensure that no one is left behind in having access to toilets and that any left out or new household is supported for construction of Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs). 

As reported by the States/UTs on the online Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), 9.04 crore IHHLs have been constructed under SBM (G) during the last five years and funds amounting to Rs.87,596.31 crore have been spent for construction of IHHLs during these years.

This Information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel in a written  reply in Lok Sabha today.
