Clean Tap Water to Every Home

Government of India is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission, in partnership with States to make provision of tap water supply in adequate quantity of prescribed quality on regular and long-term basis to every rural household of the country by 2024. The mission will also cover schools, anganwadi centres, ashramshalas (tribal residential schools), health centres, Gram Panchayat building in the villages.

The State-wise details of villages, households, schools and anganwadi centers covered under Jal Jeevan Mission including in Odisha and Maharashtra are annexed (Annex – I). State wise information related to JJM is placed in the public domain, which is available on JJM dashboard at:

The State-wise details of funds allocated, released and utilized under JJM including in Odisha and Maharashtra are annexed (Annex - II).

In the operational guidelines for the implementation of JJM, village-level planning and community participation in all decisions pertaining to water supply systems have been envisaged to instil the sense of ownership among villagers. Gram Sabha will decide whether GP or its sub-committee will carry out the responsibilities of water supply management in the village. Wherever the sub-committee is chosen, i.e. VWSC/ Pani Samiti/ User Group, etc. it may be headed by Sarpanch/ Up-Sarpanch/ GP member/ traditional village head/ senior village leader as may be decided and Gram Sabha Panchayat Secretary/ Patwari/ Talati may act as Secretary. It may consist of 10-15 members comprising elected members of Panchayat up to 25% of the composition; 50% women members and remaining 25% may consist of representatives of weaker sections of the village (SC/ST) proportional to their population. The details of VWSCs constituted by States/ UTs under JJM  is annexed (Annex-III).
