Ministry of Law and Justice celebrated International Women’s Day today the 8th March 2022 at 12:30 PM on the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”.
The occasion was graced by Hon’ble Minister of Law & Justice, Shri Kiren Rijiju, Hon’ble Minister of State for Law & Justice, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Secretary Deptt. of Justice and Deptt. of Legal Affairs, Shri Barun Mitra, Secretary, Legislative Department, Dr. Reeta Vasishta.
Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, Addl. Secretary who moderated the event, delivered the welcome address.
Shri Barun Mitra, Secretary Deptt. of Justice and Department of Legal Affairs stated that our Constitution is based on gender equality, and the Department of Justice is continuously working towards increased representation of women in the Indian Judiciary.
Dr. Reeta Vasishta, Secretary, Legislative Department brought out the history of Women’s Day and opined that the importance of women is not something to be recognized on a single day in a year, but it has to be a continuous process.
The Hon’ble Minister of State for Law and Justice, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel reiterated the special position that the women enjoy in the Indian society and called upon the women work force of the Ministry to come forward and contribute for betterment of their position in the workplace.
Hon’ble Minister of Law & Justice, Shri Kiren Rijiju stated that the Constitution ensures that there is no discrimination on the ground of gender. There are many provisions for women empowerment in the Constitution and also many women centric Laws act towards empowering the women of the country in order to make a better work place. It is the duty of all women employees to work hand in hand in this direction.
The event ended by a vote of thanks by Smt. Varsha Chandra, Addl. Law Officer, Law Commision of India. After the event, a momento and rose flower were presented to the women officers and officials of all the three Departments of Ministry of Law and Justice viz., Department of Justice, Department of Legal Affairs and Legislative Department, as a token of thanks.
