FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN
National Commission for Women has taken various initiatives towards financial empowerment of women which include financial literacy and education, empowering women in rural India, country-wide capacity building and personality development, online training programme to digitally train aspiring women entrepreneurs, suggesting measures for women in agriculture sector, promoting the cause of digital literacy for creating a safe cyber space for women and also to address and devising strategies to tackle cyber violence against women and girls.
The Commission has carried out work relating to preparation of gender profile in respect of States and Union Territories to gauge how women’s life has changed and also to measure progress over the time period. The Commission visited all States and Union Territories except Lakshadweep to assess the status of women.
Data relating to complaints for deprivation of rights/violence against women registered in the Commission under various categories during the last three years and current year (till 25.01.2022) is given at Annexure-I. The Commission has also taken suo moto cognizance of large number of cases/ instances of violation/ deprivation of the rights of women. The details of such cases for the last three years and current financial year till 25.01.2022 are given below:

In accordance with the mandate of the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, the Commission reviews laws, undertakes specific studies relating to laws, conducts seminars/conferences/workshops, etc and makes recommendations on enacting new legislations as well as amendments to the existing laws, affecting and concerning women. NCW has been conducting Legal Awareness Programmes in colleges/ Universities all over the country to spread awareness on various laws relating to women. NCW is also conducting Gender Sensitisation Programmes and Capacity Building Programmes for Police Personnel on the laws relating to women.
