Reliable
estimates of employment and unemployment are obtained through quinquennial labour force surveys conducted by National
Sample Survey Office. Last such survey was conducted during 2009-10.
Based on the results of the survey, the unemployment rate in the country
including Hindi speaking areas on usual status basis was 2.3 per cent. The details of Worker Population Ratio for
all persons according to usual status approach during 2009-10 are annexed.
Such
information is not maintained centrally.
Government
of India has been making constant efforts through normal growth process and
implementing various employment generation programmes,
such as, Swarana Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY); Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP); Swarnajayanti
Gram Swarozgar Yojana
(SGSY) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)
besides entrepreneurial development programmes run by
the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.
The
Union Labour & Employment Minister Shri Mallikarjun Kharge gave this information in a written reply
