Production of Cotton
Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) on August 23, 2012 has estimated 2011-12 production at 353 lac bales which is the highest ever crop size.

The cotton stocks in India are estimated at 28 lac bales.

Currently Indian Cotton prices are above world prices. Textiles mills have started importing cheaper cotton from abroad which is expected to moderate domestic prices.

Government policy seeks to ensure adequate raw material security for textile industry and exportable surplus is determined only after domestic consumption needs are met.

This information was given by Smt. Panabakka Lakshmi, , Minister of State for Textiles , in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
