Residential Schools in Tribal Areas


          A statement indicating the number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) sanctioned and funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to the State Governments (including naxal affected areas) under the programme of “Grant under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India” is placed at Annexure. Sanction for setting up of EMRS is accorded by Ministry of Tribal Affairs based on proposals received from States as per the allocation, requirements/needs of the States as a measure of gap-filling in critical infrastructure subject to fulfilment of terms and conditions of the prescribed guidelines by the States. No time frame for setting up of EMRS can be given. 


Out of the total 152 EMRS sanctioned, 108 are functional. The State-wise break up is at Annexure.  As per the EMRS guidelines, the maximum strength of each EMRS is 480 students in Classes VI to XII.


          This information was given by the Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Shri Mahadeo Singh Khandela in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
