Supply of BS IV Compliant Fuel in 50 more Cities by 2015
In-Principle Decision to Formulate Auto Fuel Policy 2020
The Minister of State Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri R P N Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply today that decision has been taken to progressively expand coverage of BS-IV fuels in 50 more cities by 2015. During 2011-12, BS-IV fuels have been introduced in seven cities, namely, Puducherry (UT), Mathura (UP), Vapi (Guj), Jamnagar (Guj), Ankaleshwar (Guj), Hissar (Haryana) and Bharatpur (Raj) between January to March, 2012.

Supply of BS-IV Petrol & Diesel commenced on a dingle day, i.e. on 1st April, 2010, in 13 identified cities as per the roadmap laid down in Auto Fuel Policy. These include Delhi/NCR, Mumai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad including Secunderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur, Agra, Solapur and Lucknow. The auto Fuel Policy, approved by the Cabinet in its meeting held on 3.10.2003, gave a roadmap for upgradation of the quality of auto fuels (Petrol and Diesel) to Bharat Stage (BS) IV in 13 identified cities and BS-III in rest of the country effective from 1.4.2010. BS-III fuels (Petrol and Diesel)in the rest of the country was implemented between 1st April 2010 and 22nd September 2010.

Further, the Minister announced that a decision, in principle, has been taken to formulate the Auto Fuel Policy, 2020 as per the Results Framework Document of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
