Expansion and Modernisation of Steel Plants

The Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma has said that Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has undertaken modernization and expansion at its five integrated steel plants at Bhilai, Bokaro, Rourkela, Durgapur & Burnpur and special plant at Salem to enhance its crude steel production capacity from 12.8 Million Tonne Per Annum (Mtpa) to 21.4  Mtpa in the current phase.  

 

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today he said, the indicative investment/expenditure in respect of SAIL which is likely to be incurred during the current phase of modernization and expansion is around Rs. 61,870 crore. Besides, a provision of Rs. 10,264 crore has been kept towards investment in existing mines under Raw Material Division (RMD) and development in Rowghat Mine.  Similarly, the indicative investment/expenditure in respect of modernisation and expansion of RINL (Visakhapatnam Steel Plant) is likely to be around Rs. 12,000 crore.

 

Shri Verma said, the plant-wise details of present production capacity and likely enhancement as a result of current modernization and expansion and investment/expenditure likely to be incurred are given below:

At present, no Joint Venture between SAIL and POSCO is envisaged in Odisha, the Minister added.
