The Central Government has adopted an integrated approach in dealing with LWE activities in the areas of security, development and public perception. The State Governments deal with specific issues related to naxalite activities in the States and the Central Government supplements the efforts of the State Governments over a wide range of schemes on both security and development fronts. This, inter-alia, includes deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs); sanction of India Reserve (IR) battalions; setting up of Counter Insurgency and Anti-Terrorist (CIAT) Schools; reimbursement of security-related expenditure under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Scheme; filling up critical infrastructure gaps under the Special Infrastructure Scheme (SIS) in Left Wing Extremist affected States; and construction/strengthening of fortified police stations under the Scheme for Construction/ Strengthening of 400 Fortified Police Stations in LWE affected districts.

The Government of India has a clear strategy to combat LWE in a holistic manner through a combination of development related and security related measures.

This information was given by Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri Jitendra Singh  in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
